Save Money With Wedding Craft Ideas
Make Your Own Wedding Favors and Bits and Pieces
Weddings are wonderful, but we all know the word wedding means, now is the time to spend lots of money! There is a way to save your budget and that is by making your own wedding crafts.
With wedding crafts you can insert a personal touch, while minimizing costs. Here are a few ideas to add sparkle and creativity to your big day.
Wedding Veil
It is not that hard to create your own wedding veil. (I actually made my own headpiece – in the form of a halo, for under $15.) To make this wedding craft, you will need a length of bridal illusion in the desired length. You will also need a comb to attach it to your hair and a hat or headpiece to cover the comb. Sew large running stitches about an inch from the end of the illusion and gather it tightly. Now sew the veil to the comb. Top with hat or headpiece. As an alternative, you can decorate a wide-brimmed straw hat with silk flowers, ribbon, and pearls.
Floral Arrangements
The bouquets and floral arrangements can also be personally crafted. For a simple outdoor wedding, consider wild flowers. They are free and have a charm all their own. Bouquets can be arranged in large clear vases, with a bow tied elegantly around.
Wedding Favor Ideas
Favors for the guests are particularly appropriate wedding crafts. Refrigerator magnets are a simple and well-received favor. A really nice idea is to make a magnetic picture frame and include a picture of the couple. You could cut a frame out of craft foam in one of the wedding colors, arrange over the photo, and glue all onto a cardboard backing. Place self-adhesive magnet tape on the back of the cardboard. Decorate the front of the frame with foil heart stickers and a monogram of the couple’s last name.
Decorating Church Pews or Rows
Bows for the ends of the pews or rows make simple wedding crafts. Wide velvet ribbons are nice for fall and winter weddings, while satin is more appropriate for spring and summer weddings. Loop some flat lace in with the ribbons. In the center of the completed bow, attach some silk flowers and pearl sprays with a hot glue gun.
Your Wedding Cake
Perhaps you’d like to try your hand at decorating your own cake. Check the craft section of the department store for pans and gadgets of all types to help you create a cake to remember. Do remember, though, that it takes a steady hand. Be sure to practice before starting on the real cake.
Preparing for a wedding can be expensive, but with wedding crafts, you can take some of the sting out. Plan early, however, because it will take a little while to make favors for everyone and all the other little details you will want to take care of. Maybe creating wedding crafts will even relieve some of those wedding jitters. In any event, crafting your own wedding items is a way to have a personal, beautiful, and less expensive wedding.
Barbie Paper Dolls a Hit In The Great Depression
Barbie has always been well loved by little girls. Many mom’s have smiles on their faces as they watch their daughters play with such objects. Barbie paper dolls became a hit in the 1950’s due to the Great Depression. Children weren’t able to have all the toys they once did, but paper dolls were very inexpensive. They were also something that offered little girls hours of entertainment. They could pretend to be anything they wanted and escape the reality of what was going on around them.
Even after the Great Depression ended though, Barbie paper dolls continued to be a huge selling item. By the 1970’s the manufacturers were also printing them of her sister Skipper as well. Even though she never became as famous as Barbie, she definitely had high numbers of sales. It was also great fun for little girls to have both Barbie and Skipper to play with. However, there were many arguments out there between siblings as to who got to be which one of the paper dolls.
Towards 1975 there were more Barbie friends introduced to the line up. Ken who has been Barbie’s long time boyfriend was added. Her friend Midge was also featured in some areas. With the addition of Ken, there were often little boys taking the time to play with paper dolls as well. Due to the stereotypical roles of males being what they were at that time though, it was often frowned upon in most households.
There have been very few new lines of Barbie paper dolls to emerge on the market since the 1990’s. Those individuals that still have them from the 1950’s and even the early 1970’s have a very valuable collectible on their hands. These items are bringing in thousands of dollars depending on the quality of the materials.
Today, most little girls that are interested in Barbie paper dolls do it on the computer. Barbie has her own site where you can click on clothes and drag them to place on her. There is even great music to go along with it. Children of all ages seem to be enjoying using the computer for such games. They can even choose to print out their final production if they choose to.
